Mirion Technologies’ Newest Physicists Settle into Our New Warrington (UK) Office
Mirion Technologies recently opened a new state-of-the-art design, development, manufacture and test facility for radiation measurement systems at Birchwood Park – a business park in Warrington (UK), which is home to over 165 organizations - enabling closer proximity with certain key customers, as well as sustainable access to talent and R&D partners. Three of our newest additions to our growing physics team – Chris McPeake, Cory Binnersley and Gareth White – are now based in Warrington.
We hosted an open day at the new facility, which included a demonstration of our Passive and Active Neutron plus Gamma system. The facility was formally opened by Councilor Russ Bowden, leader of Warrington Borough Council and a Nuclear Engineer himself, who commented: “We’re delighted to welcome Mirion Technologies to Warrington. The fact that they’ve chosen Birchwood Park for their R&D, manufacturing and services for radiation measurement systems highlights the nationally significant importance of the nuclear industry here in Warrington as well as the access we can provide to leading universities”.
Mirion Managing Director, and President of Characterization Division James Cocks added, “This location was chosen as it is the hub of the UK nuclear industry. We have made a significant investment in expanding our footprint and capability with our new Warrington home, and see it as a key strategic move that will provide a long-term sustainable benefit”.
The opening was attended by local and national companies who are all involved with supporting the UK nuclear industry. Throughout the day the Mirion team offered demonstrations on a wide range of capabilities including, waste measurement systems, air monitors and handheld radiation detectors. This event also marked the UK launch of the new Mirion state-of-the-art Hyperion™ High Radiation Tolerant Camera (pictured above) that is based on the ‘Space Age’ solid-state device, providing long life, cost savings and significant improvements in performance.
